How Sewing Can Help Stop Slavery

Do you have a skill that has become a passion? Whether it is playing a musical instrument, gardening, or writing poetry, you can use that skill to help make a difference in the world.

Anita Shrestha of Kathmandu, Nepal, uses her love of sewing to help reduce slavery. Every 6 months, she invites women who have been trafficked into her home to teach them how to sew. At the end of that period, she chooses three students to live with her for additional training that can last anywhere from six months to a year. Her goal is to help women learn marketable skills that they can take back to their villages and pass on to other women.

Anita using her passion (fabric) and strength (teaching) to make a difference in the lives of countless people. Hundreds of women have lived with Anita, and thousands of women have learned from her. Together they combat a huge problem.

What’s your passion? And how can you use it to make the world a better place?

Sometimes the best way to relax is #meditation. If you’ve never meditated, aim for a few minutes. Feel free to ask for tips. This can bring clarity in your #jobsearch, clear your mind to be better prepared for an #interview or relax anxiety over what’s next. #SelfCareSaturday

Find a way to give back to someone else today. Volunteer, donate, buy a coffee, help a homeless person. Giving back makes you feel good and helps someone. Give your mood a boost with kindness. #SelfCareSaturday #SelfCare #careertips
