December 7, 20176 Strategies to Beat the Job-Search Blues
December 21, 2017The Benefits of Positive Peer Pressure and Your Job Search
If you’re anything like me, there have been hundreds of times (if not more) where you have tried to improve something about your life. This may have been to stop a destructive habit or create a new healthy one. New Year’s resolutions, a desire to fit into an old pair of jeans, a determination to exercise on a regular basis, even the wish to make my bed neatly every day, there have been countless ways that I’ve tried to make my life better. And when I look back on what worked and what didn’t, one method stands out above the rest: accountability. If someone was counting on me, I rose to the occasion.
Research supports my experience. Positive peer pressure can increase the chances of sticking to an exercise program, stopping drinking, paying taxes, and reducing wasteful energy consumption. Accountability is powerful stuff! And it can be markedly effective when working through complex and long-term changes.
Accountability can come in all shapes and sizes. It can be payment for something (like a gym membership), it can be a daily or weekly check-in with a friend, it can be a group that you go to every week. It can be a class with expectations and due dates. And a combination of these ideas can be especially powerful.
This is the main reason why I created Your Career Design Studio. Finding the right-fit job requires effort, introspection, grit, patience, and perseverance. All of this is easier with some type of accountability. The job search is often a lonely and disheartening experience, but it doesn’t have to be!
Your Career Design Studio requires a financial investment of $195. Again, research indicates that a payment increases the chances that you’ll follow through on your commitments. It’s a weekly online meeting for six weeks where you can discuss your challenges and get feedback. There are expectations that you’ll complete the between-session activities, which are all designed to help you identify your unique value to the type of work you want to do. And the other participants can be accountability partners, talking and supporting each other off-line.
This unique program that combines group coaching, job search best practices, online activities, and peer support starts January 18. Learn more and sign up here!
