April 24, 2017Blog/Book Review: Career Design According to J.K. Rowling
One thing you need to know about me is that I am a big mystery fan. I love the who-dun-it classics especially Sir Conan Aurther Doyle and Agatha Christie. I’m also a fan of Harry Potter, so when I found out that J.K. Rowling had branched into mysteries under the pen name Robert Galbraith, I jumped right in!
So why am I talking about my private reading pleasures in a blog about career design? Because I have found myself fascinated by one of the main characters in her series, Robin Ellacott, and her creation of her ideal career. Without spoiling the story, Robin starts living her childhood dream of detective work through an unpromising temp job. As she discovers the day-to-day work that’s involved, she overcomes common obstacles, finds creative ways to pursue her dream, makes some difficult choices between what’s expected and what’s exciting, and is in many ways representative of the career designer’s journey. If you also love mysteries, good writing, and guilty pleasures, check out The Cuckoo’s Calling and see if you aren’t inspired to create your own ideal career!
